TOTEM
TÓTEM is a choral film about life. Seven-year-old Sol spends the day at her Grandfather’s home, helping with the preparations for a surprise party for her father. "A Mexican family portrait, bursting with beauty and drama".
Leslie Felperin - The Hollywood Reporter
"Intimate, emotionally rich, [it] immerses audiences in a boisterous family gathering."
Peter Debruge- Variety
"A luminous and soul-nourishing microcosm, the film reveals itself in the charged interactions between its multiple characters".
Carlos Aguilar- The Playlist
"One of the rare authentic miracles that a film can pull off is to depict the intimate and the seemingly inconsequential, and to do it with absolute naturalness. Lila Avilés achieves this feat with elegance and insight."
Jonathan Romney- Screendaily
"That nobility and generosity of spirit is what informs this excellent film. You deal with death as you can, not always as you want to. And Avilés understands this and conveys it perfectly."
